A standalone DivX Player is a DVD player which plays movies and video which has been compressed using the MPEG4 standard such as DivX or XviD. Movies which have been compressed using DivX or XviD are much smaller than standard DVD's and the quality can be much higher than VCD / SVCD.
There are many standalone DivX players available today including portable DVD players, DVD recorders and HDD recorders with include DivX / XviD playback capabilities. Also, a number of games consoles now include DivX / XviD playback such as the PS3 and XBox 360.
